Lemon Yellow

by Bill DeMain

about

From Transatlantic Romantic, a whimsical song about my first car, co-written with Larry Goldings.

lyrics

Lemon Yellow

She was cute and lemon yellow
All the way from Germany
It was love from the first hello
We looked so good together

Round and round the high school lot
As I learned to drive a stick
Pretty soon I got the hang of it

To the mall and to the movies
Ten and two upon the wheel
With a green-eyed girl named Suzy
I was too shy to kiss her

And the soundtrack all that summer
Selling England on cassette
Morristown and down to Wildwood Crest

Threw my schoolbooks and guitar inside and off we'd go
Called her names and kicked her tires but I still loved her so

If she was a little quirky
Water pooled beneath the seat
Wash me on a window dirty
And the dimples on fenders

That September off to college
Cross the fields and setting sun
Couldn't wait for winter break to come

Threw my schoolbooks and guitar inside and off we'd go
She was game but getting tired but I still loved her so

Had a dream about a junkyard
Cars and cars in stacks so high
At the top in lemon yellow
Wonder could it be, yeah I think I see
Winking back at me...
