lyrics

Film Noir

The first thing that she said was
"Have you got a torch?"
A curious expression we don't hear much anymore
The feeling as she leaned in
Perfume and cigarette
A powder keg of trouble, a murderous duet
When you locked on to each other
In the shadows with a kiss
You knew you'd found the star
Of your film noir

Every look was loaded
As love got messed around
She played you like a piano, her ticket out of town
And that little taste of sugar
Turned bitter by the day
Your heart was slowly sinking in its own naiveté
Then you pressed her for an answer
And she cut you to the quick
You knew you'd lost the star
Of your film noir

Now that the cigarette's an ember
I remember who we were
The night that I was the star
Of your film noir
